WELCOME

Thank you for your interest in LE&RN Chapters. Here is where patients, families, caregivers, therapists, and local medical practitioners can connect and share how to better identify and manage lymphatic diseases (LD).

Help raise awareness and encourage other patients to join the fight. Together we can build a stronger voice so we can make great strides in educating doctors, so they know how to identify lymphatic diseases and where to refer patients, convincing lawmakers to earmark more funding for research, and making known to the wider community how life-changing these disease are.

WHAT IS INVOLVED?

The most frequently asked question related to Chapter membership is What is involved?

We ask that you have a caring attitude, a passion for helping others, and become active in lymphatic disease advocacy activities aligned to LE&RN’s mission of education and research. If you would like to launch a new Chapter, then you would lead or form a leadership team in your area for the following example activities.

Activity Examples

  • Attend bi-monthly meetings on an educational, research, or advocacy topic related to lymphatic disease. These can be in person or via Zoom.
  • Write to your city or state elected officials to declare World Lymphedema Day on March 6th
  • Participate in Calls to Action from LE&RN such as writing your story to the American Medical Association (AMA) or the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to make them aware of changes and funding needed for lymphatic research
  • Host a booth at a local health fair, medical conference, or school and distribute LE&RN materials as well as speak to others about what it means to live with LD
  • Drop off or email flyers and other materials to local doctors, patients, and therapists
  • Participate in a LE&RN Run/Walk in your area. For those who have limited mobility, you can be a greeter or volunteer at a registration table.
  • Write to your local newspaper, radio, or tv station about LE&RN advocacy and events
  • Light up a local city landmark in teal or blue for World Lymphedema Day
  • Share LE&RN information on a Chapter Facebook page
  • Create a list of treatment centers in your area to share with others who are looking for help
  • Be a local volunteer resource for someone who is newly diagnosed in your area
  • Volunteer to help with any of the above activities or support through your attendance

In short, the possibilities are endless. Different chapters do different things at various times in the year as their schedule and resources allow. More importantly, you meet other advocates who are fighting to be the change they want to see in the world. If you want to start slow and attend meetings to learn more about becoming an advocate, we welcome you too.
